CorBELT
: Functions and Applications
The CorBELT is an intelligent chest strap which continuously measures and analyzes a 1-channel ECG. It can be used as
1-channel ECG or an event recorder.
Storage of events:
The CorBELT has a stora
ge function. It analyzes the ECG and, if an arrhythmia occurs, records a 2-minute ECG (1 minute
before and 1 minute after the arrhythmia). The memory capacity is about 20 minutes or 10 events. The recorded
measurements are then read out via Bluetooth.
Live data transmission:
The CorBelts data transmission generally starts fully automated and without user interaction. When an event is detected, the
device tranmits a 2-minutes ECG signal: 1 minute before and 1 minute minute following the event. Alternatively, the wearer or
the physician can trigger a transmission himself. Currently, only rhythmological pathologies are detected (tachycardias,
VF/VT, bradycardias, absolute arrhythmias, pauses).
The ECG signal is sent to an intermediate relay station, usually a cell phone, PDA or modem, via a Bluetooth connection,
and is then further transmitted to a rescue dispatch center, a clinic, treating physicians or heath care services.Therefore,
data can almost be transmitted live with the CorBELT mobile software. The transmission of an event 2 minutes long has a
data volume of about 50 kB.
Reliability:
The system is self-contained. A pairing between device and relais station prevents the data from being incorrectly
transmitted to another receiver. This guarantees the wearer of the system optimum medical diagnostic monitoring and good
security at the same time. Motion artefacts can be effectively suppressed with a built-in motion sensor, allowing the
maximum sensitivities and specificities to be reached. This allows false positive event detections to be reduced to a
minimum.
Electrodes technology:
The ECG recording is done by two hard electrodes made of stainless steel. The chest strap is biocompatible and has
special electrode technology which requires no unpleasant gel layer or disposable articles. The belt is extremly easy to wear.
The chest strap can be operated with a standard or rechargeable battery.
