    Description

Original Civil War gunner's priming tool/gimlet.  Non-dug.  These were used by gunners from the north and south to prime the charge, once loaded.  It would be put through the small hole in the back of the cannon to pierce the powder to allow for proper placement of the primer.  There was a large variety of different types and sizes.  This one measures about 6-1/2 inches long and the handle is about 3-5/8 inches wide.
